This exam is over anything in chapters 4-6

-What is a word processor

-What is a/an title bar, tool bar, rulers, insertion point, status bar

-What is overtype mode and how do you get out of it

-How many spaces go after a period and why

-What are the useful shortcuts to move the insertion point (ctrl+arrow moves from word to word, Home or end takes you to the beginning of the line, ctrl+home or ctrl+end takes you to the beginning or end of the document)

-The delete key deletes to the right and the backspace key deletes to the left

-insert+symbol lets you insert symbols like copyrights

-what is word wrap

-what is the paragraph marks button and what are the symbols used in paragraph marks e.g. arrow, dot

-spelling arrow- red, grammar arrow- green

-spell check is often wrong

-purple dotted line is the smart tag indicator- (used for addresses

-find text by going to edit+find

-a thesaurus is help to find synonyms and antonyms (found under tools+language+thesaurus)

-know shortcuts for cut, copy and paste- cut= Ctrl+X, copy= Ctrl+C, paste= Ctrl+V

-know san serif and serif fonts

-know what bold, italic and underline are

-know sub script & super script

-there are 72 points in an inch

-know what clipboard is

-know the alignments (left, center, right, justified)

-know how to insert a hyperlink and get rid of a hyperlink

-know what document collaboration is and how to do it in word

-know what the reveal formatting task pane is

-know what margins and pagination is

-know the paper the size for paper lettering (8.5 x 11)

-default margins are 1.25 on both sides and an 1 on the top and bottom- get to the by file+page setup

-automatic page breaks happen automatically and manual page breaks are inserted manually

-know what header and footers are and how to get to them

-know how to insert page numbers, dates, times, and how to make it so the page numbers don’t start on the first page

-know what tab stops are and which are which- left, right, center, decimal

-know what single spacing and double spacing are and how to get to them from the menu and what the shortcuts are- ctrl+1 for single and ctrl+2 are double

-for indentation u move the right or left indent marker

-know what a hanging indent is

-know what bulleted lists and number lists are

-footnotes- insert+reference+footnote

-know how to add a picture to a domument- insert+picture etc

-not to distort the image drag image from the corner

-know what html is- file+save as webpage

-tables (row goes across, column goes up and down and a cell is the intersection of a row and column)

-know the pointer changes for the tables

-know how to change the column width and height

-know what a style is

-know what hyphenation is

-know what outline view is

-know what T.O.C. and what it stands for and also how to inset it

-know how to insert a hyperlink

-know what section breaks are

-know about section headers and footers

-know how to make a 2 fold brochure (know why you are making it and who you are making it for)

Chapters 5&6 Quiz Review

This is to help you study for your quiz over Chapter 3
Do not only memorize this guide word for word, you should be prepared to show that you understand the terms and ideas listed below.
There will be 2 questions on the quiz that will not be in the study guide, but that will be in the book and will have been highlighted in class.

The reveal formatting task pane is found by using Format -> Reveal Formatting and shows all the formatting used on selected text.
Margins are the white region around a text on the page. Margins are set in File -> Page Setup
Pagination is how a document is divided into pages.
Manual Page Breaks (or a Hard Page Break) can be made by going to Insert->Break->Page Break
Standard letter size paper is 8.5 inches wide by 11 inches tall.
A header is a special area at the top of a page, while the footer is a special area at the bottom.
Autotext, inserted with buttons such as the Insert Page Number button, or the Insert Date button, is text that automatically updates.
Tabs are used to position text within a line.
The four tab stops are:
Left - aligns to the left
Right - aligns to the right
Center - aligns to the center
Decimal - aligns by the decimal in a number
Tabs are selected by using the tab selection button
A vertical column of text is selected by holding the Alt key down while clicking and dragging.
Single spacing is default, while double spacing adds more space between the lines.
The right and left indentation button are used to indent a paragraph
Hanging indents are most often used in references in reports and are created by moving the hanging indent marker.
Footnotes are created by using Insert -> Reference -> Footnote
When resizing an image, using the side handles can result in a distorted image.
HTML documents can be created in word by File -> Save As Web Page

Ch. 6
A row is horizontal, a column is is horizontal, and the cell is the intersection of a row and a column.
Styles are a set of formats that make it easy to keep a consistent set of formats in a document.
Hyphenating a document ads hyphens so part of a word wraps to the next line
Outline view allows you to create an outline based on the headings.
A TOC or Table of Contents can be created by going to Insert -> Reference -> Index and Tables, and uses the outline to automatically create the TOC
A section break (Insert->Break->Section Break) is used to create separate sections used to create different areas of formatting.
A two-fold brochure has 6 panels of information.
When creating a brochure, it's important to consider the purpose and audience, so the brochure will be effective.

Ch 4 (Word Processing) Study Guide

Know what a word processor is and some common examples.
Know the diagram on the bottom of page 87, including common items such as title bar, menu bar, toolbar, rulers, insertion point, status bar na the other task panes list.
Know the common keyboard short cuts for moving the insertion point:
-Ctrl+arrow moves you to the beginning of the word in that direction
-Home or End move you to the beginning or end of the line
-Ctrl+home and Ctrl+end move you to the beginning or end of the document.
- Delete deletes to the right, while backspace deletes to the left
- Enter is only used to end a paragraph
Word wrap is a feature that automatically moves text to the next line when you run out of room.
Know what the show paragraph marks button looks like, and what the different marks it shows mean (dot=space, 'backwards P'=paragraph, arrow=tab)
Know what OVR (over type mode) is and the two ways to get out of it (Insert or double click on OVR in the status bar)
Know that there's only 1 space after a period.
Know about the limitations of spell check and the following:
- red wavy line - spelling error
- green wavy line - grammar error
- blue dotted line - smart tag indicator

Know how to use find and find and replace, and when it would be helpful.
Know what the thesaurus is, that it displays synonyms and antonyms.
Know what Cut Copy Paste and Undo are, and know the keyboard shortcut for each.
Know the difference between serif and sans-serif fonts, what they are commonly used for and what uses each is best suited for.
Know that 72 pt font equals 1 inch.
Know what bold, italic and underline text are
Know what the four alignments are and what they look like: right, left, center and justified.
Know what document collaboration is.
