A power point presentation is a collection of slides used to enhance a informative speech.
Before creating a powerpoint presentation, you should plan the purpose of the presentation, consider the audience, develop the content, and design the layout.
Avoid using more than three fonts, and pay close attention to how readable your text is.
You can select a layout in the the slide layout panel
Deleting a slide - Edit -> delete slide, or select a slide in layout view, then hit delete.
Placeholders hold text and other content such as pictures.
Normal is the default view that divides the window into the left pane, slide pane and notes pane
Slide sorter displays thumbnails of all the slides
Slide Show view displays  current slide displays the current slide in full-screen mode. F5 will also enter slide show view
The color scheme is the set of colors used throughout the slideshow
The Slide Master controls the design of the entire presentation
Serif fonts have small strokes at the end of the characters, while Sans Serif ("no serif") do not. Serif fonts are easier to read, while sans serifs are considered more modern.
Images can either be added from a file (Insert->Picture->from file) or from the clip art library.

Transitions are the way one slide changes to another. Slide Show- Slide Transition

A presentation has a file extension of .ppt, while a presentation template is .pot

It's important to test a powerpoint before using it in a live presentation. Be sure all the fonts, movies and other features work.
Packaging a presentation for CD can help ensure your presentation will work on a different computer.
Powerpoint files can be password protected, although the password protection is not very secure, and can be fairly easily broken.
