So we have the basics down. Let's really explore curves today and get a true inside understanding of the tool.
Read and follow this article on curves . I know it's long, but it's really good. Actually read the whole thing, then you're going to create three rollover images that will show the image, the histogram and then the curves for that image - just like the tutorial does.

Alright now we're going to use the channels to save us a lot of time selecting complex objects like hair. Use this image and put it on this background as you follow the demonstration in class.

Today I'll be using this picture to demonstrate how to make a selection using channels and levels. Your assignment is to put the flower on a new background using channels and to do the same to another flower picture online. Be sure to find a picture with good contrast between the background and the flower. There's many ways to make a selection, but soon you'll see why channels are the most powerful.
